Music Poster Size Guide for Print and Social Media

Choose the correct music poster dimensions for A-series paper, US print sizes, Instagram, Stories, Reels, and venue promotion.

Music Poster Size Guide for Print and Social Media — TrackPush

The best music poster size depends on where people will see it. A design made for a phone screen should not be sent unchanged to a print shop, and an A3 venue poster will not fit an Instagram feed without awkward cropping.

Use this guide to select a canvas, keep the QR code scannable, and export the correct file.

Quick music poster size chart

Use · Size · Best for

A5 · 148 × 210 mm · Handouts, merch inserts, counter cards

A4 · 210 × 297 mm · Bulletin boards, coffee shops, home printing

A3 · 297 × 420 mm · Venues, record stores, higher viewing distance

US Letter · 8.5 × 11 in · General US printing and bulletin boards

11 × 17 in · Tabloid · Gig posters and venue walls

Instagram portrait · 1080 × 1350 px · Feed posts

Square social post · 1080 × 1080 px · Flexible feed sharing

Story or Reel cover · 1080 × 1920 px · Instagram Stories, Reels, TikTok

These are canvas dimensions, not guarantees that every printer uses the same trim or bleed settings. Ask the printer before a large order.

A4 versus US Letter

A4 is standard in most countries. US Letter is common in the United States and Canada. They are similar but not identical, so a design can shift or scale when printed on the wrong paper.

Use the format supported by the place doing the printing. If you are printing at home, check the paper already in the printer. If you are sending a PDF to a shop, tell them not to fit the document to a different page size without approval.

When to use A5

A5 is useful for:

  • Merch-package inserts
  • Counter cards
  • Handouts
  • Listening-party tables
  • Small display stands

Because the page is smaller, reduce the amount of copy. Keep the QR code large enough to scan and use one short call to action.

When to use A4 or US Letter

This is the safest starting size for independent artists. It works with common printers, is inexpensive, and fits most approved bulletin boards.

Use A4 or Letter for local release campaigns, rehearsal studios, campuses, cafés, record stores, and small venue interiors.

When to use A3 or 11 × 17

Use a larger poster when the viewer will be farther away. Increase the artist name, release title, date, and QR code proportionally. Do not simply enlarge a low-resolution image; blurry cover art makes the campaign look unfinished.

Resolution for printing

Professional print is commonly prepared at 300 pixels per inch at final size. A printer may accept a press-ready PDF rather than asking for pixel dimensions.

Use high-resolution artwork. A small streaming-service thumbnail can look acceptable on a phone and visibly soft on A3 paper.

Bleed and safe areas

Bleed extends background artwork beyond the final trim edge so cutting does not leave a white line. Many printers request about 3 mm or 0.125 inch of bleed, but requirements vary.

Keep names, dates, logos, and QR codes inside the safe area. Do not place a QR code close to a trim line.

QR-code size by poster format

Start with these practical minimums, then test:

  • A5: about 0.8–1 inch / 2–2.5 cm
  • A4 or Letter: at least 1 inch / 2.5 cm
  • A3 or 11 × 17: 1.25–2 inches / 3–5 cm depending on distance

Complex URLs can produce denser codes that need more room. Read QR-code best practices for music posters before printing.

Social media sizes

Instagram feed

Use 1080 × 1350 px for a portrait post when possible. It occupies more vertical space than a square post. Keep the primary text inside comfortable margins so interface elements do not crowd it.

Stories, Reels, and TikTok

Use 1080 × 1920 px. Keep critical details away from the very top and bottom, where usernames, captions, and controls appear.

QR codes on social posts

A QR code displayed on the same phone someone is using cannot be scanned in the usual way. Users may take a screenshot and scan it from Photos, but a clickable link or profile link is often better. Use QR codes primarily for print, desktop viewing, displays, and cross-device situations.

Do not resize one design for every channel

Create a small family of layouts:

  1. A print version in A4, Letter, or A3
  2. A 1080 × 1350 feed version
  3. A 1080 × 1920 Story and Reel version

Use the same art, color, and typography, but rearrange the hierarchy for each shape.

Export checklist

  • PDF for professional print
  • High-resolution PNG when transparency or crisp graphics matter
  • JPG for smaller digital files
  • Correct page size selected
  • No important content outside the safe area
  • QR code tested from the final export
  • One physical proof printed at actual size
